Forrest Hunt Greenway Attractions
The charming town of Forest City is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. The town provides visitors with a warm, historic atmosphere and plenty of things to do to keep busy.
Why not start your visit in the rejuvenated downtown area? Thanks to recent historic preservation planning efforts, the downtown of Forest City has been given a little facelift; nine buildings have had façade renovations completed with nine other in the works. The result is an inviting district that has everything a visitor or permanent resident could ask for.
When you plan your trip on the Forest Hunt Greenway, be sure to add a few hours before or after and take a stroll on the downtown Main Street. Here you will find places to grab something to eat like an orange twist donut at Davis Donut House or stop in The Brew House and Bistro for a sandwich or salad and some live music!
Love to shop? Visit some of the locally owned stores like Dovetails & Rusty Nails for antiques, Fireside Books and Gifts for an interesting read, or Off the Beaded Path to buy or learn how to make jewelry.
Once you’ve finished downtown, be sure to motor a few blocks over to Bennett Classics Antique Auto Museum. This nonprofit museum showcases over 50 cars, trucks, motorcycles, fire trucks and farm equipment to give a physical history of how transportation has evolved. The museum will interest auto enthusiast young and old and is open Monday through Saturday. Admission for adults is $10, $8 for seniors and $4 for children.
You can also visit the Rutherford County Farm Museum which houses exhibits of antique farm equipment dating back a hundred years. They are open Wednesday through Saturday. Admission for adults is $2 and children are free.
Traveling during the summer? Catch a Forest City Owls baseball game. The 6 year old collegiate summer team has two Coastal Plain League titles under their belt and delivers a winning night of family fun at the McNair Field whenever they play!
If you would like to stay the night in town, there are many hotels located off of Highway 74. For a different lodging experience, check out some of the bed and breakfast inns around the area, like the Carrier Houses Bed and Breakfast or the Firehouse Inn. Both can be found in Rutherfordton, just a short 15 minute drive from Forest City.
