Laurel River Trail Attractions

If you have visited the Laurel River Trail, then you already know the main attraction in this part of Western NC is the amazing landscape!  It’s that way for a reason. The combined scenery from the French Broad River and the Appalachian Trail is enough to impress even the most avid outdoorsmen and women, which is why people travel a great deal to come and see it.

The city of Hot Springs is a great base camp for your trip to the Laurel River Trail; from there you can get a great meal and a comfy place to sleep after your exciting adventures!

If you haven’t had enough of nature once you’ve finished the trail and it’s warm outside, look up any of the rafting companies in Hot Springs and experience the French Broad in a whole new way.  Below is a list of a few companies that offer multiple trip options on the river. Excursions range from half day trips, one or two person inflatable kayaks or full day adventures for all ages and skill levels.

One of the most recommended hikes in the area is the path that takes you up onto Max Patch, about 45 minutes away from Hot Springs. The drive is a little tricky at points (think curvy mountain roads) but the 360 degree view of the surrounding mountains is certainly worth it. Don’t be fooled by the lack of a rocky mountain; the hike to get to the summit of the bald is very steep and can be a little exhausting.

Find yourself a little sore from all that hiking? Interested in seeing where Hot Springs got its name?  Look into having a soak in the natural hot mineral spring water that flows in the area.  Hot Springs Resort and Spa harnesses naturally flowing water and diverts it into their open air hot tubs where you can relax and enjoy the healing properties the water is said to have.

The closest lodging to the Laurel River trailhead is the River Dance Bed and Breakfast. This resort has multiple timber frame rental cabins plus common areas that boast incredible views of the gorge and river below it.
